Day 1
CHIANG RAI – CHIANG MAI: Golden Triangle, Wat Phra That Pu Khao, Opium Museum, White Temple, Hot Spring (L.)
SIC DEPARTURE: SUN – THU – ITALIAN SPEAKING GUIDE
Today we begin exploring Thailand’s northernmost province with a visit to the world-famous Golden Triangle, the point where the borders of Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, and Laos meet.
The visit includes the Wat Phra That Pu Khao, a temple offering a magnificent view of the Golden Triangle, the Mekong River, and the lush forested mountains. At the foot of the stairs, two majestic multi-headed Naga serpents guard the temple.
We then continue to the Opium Museum, which educates visitors on the history, production, and impact of opium on the hill tribe communities. The exhibition provides deep insight into how opium shaped this infamous region.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
On the way to Chiang Mai, we stop at the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), one of the most iconic religious sites in Chiang Rai. Created by the renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kosipipat, the temple is dedicated to Lord Buddha and designed to represent a heavenly realm on Earth, a symbol of justice and encouragement of good karma.
We will also make a brief stop at the Mae Krachan Hot Springs before arriving in Chiang Mai in the evening, between 17:00 and 17:30.
